Joe Burns has made his debut for the Gearlink Kawasaki team at Northamptonshire’s Rockingham circuit. The 22 year old will campaign the ZX-10R raced last season by Ben Wilson, who returns to supersport for the squad.
The former Superstock 1000 frontrunner was due to step up to the MCE British Superbike championship with his own team, but pulled the plug following a last minute let down by his title sponsors. Instead, he joins established team Gearlink for the season.
With less than ideal conditions in the February weather, Burns only completed 40 laps while waiting on the stadium circuit to come up to temperature. Speaking afterwards though, he remained happy with the squad’s progress ahead of further planned testing.
"It was a great experience to test for the first time with the Gearlink Kawasaki team. The conditions were a little too cold at Rockingham to get a proper feel for the bike and push. However, my crew chief Dave Harris and I worked on some basic geometries and engine management maps and got the bike feeling better for me. I can't wait to get back out again with the team in early March."
